The ultimate surf mast — stiffer where flex kills response, with a completely redesigned baseplate that moves you further forward in the tracks. Built for prone, tow, and downwind.

A designer's note from Erik Antonson.

My goal in designing the Progression mast was to create the ultimate surf mast. Flex is the enemy of response — both in surfing and pumping — so we've made the mast a touch thicker at the fuse connection, increasing stiffness. It may be a surprise to hear it's a touch thicker than the Katana, and in theory slower, but in practice the added stiffness is allowing us to fly higher on the mast, longer — reducing the wetted area and gaining efficiency.

This results in a more efficient pump through a reduction in drag. When you're riding a larger wing, or you're a heavier rider, the benefit of reducing mast flex is immediately felt in overall control of the foil. The leading edge of the mast is vertical, and the bottom 40% does not taper, so you have an incredibly reliable foil section in the water during turns — creating consistent, confident movement. We've found we can push harder through our turns with increased flow.

The mast is 800mm, which is my favorite length for prone, tow, and downwind. The baseplate has been redesigned completely compared to the Katana. The bolts are set closer, which allows for more forward placement in the tracks — 1.2 inches in mast position is gained. The baseplate is also tapered at the mast connection, further reducing initial drag on takeoffs and touchdowns.

Since riding the Progression 800 mast, it's all I want to ride now.

Performance highlights

  • Thicker profile at the fuse connection for increased stiffness and response
  • Flies higher and longer on the mast — less wetted area, more efficiency
  • More efficient pump through reduced drag
  • Vertical leading edge with a non-tapered bottom 40% for a reliable foil section through turns
  • Noticeably more control under larger wings and for heavier riders
  • Completely redesigned baseplate — bolts set closer for 1.2" of additional forward mast position in the tracks
  • Tapered baseplate at the mast connection to reduce drag on takeoffs and touchdowns

Best for

  • Prone, tow, and downwind
  • Riders chasing maximum control and response in the surf
  • Heavier riders, or anyone running larger front wings
  • Riders who want a stiffer, more direct, more efficient ride than the Katana

Progression Mast in action

Flex is the enemy of response.

Stiffer at the Fuse. Faster on the Water.

We made the Progression 800 a touch thicker at the fuse connection — adding stiffness exactly where flex robs you of response. The payoff: you fly higher on the mast, longer, reducing wetted area and turning that stiffness into real efficiency. A more direct, more economical pump, with less drag in every stroke.

Progression 800 Carbon Mast

Vertical leading edge. No taper.

Locked In Through Every Turn

The leading edge runs vertical, and the bottom 40% of the mast doesn't taper — so the section staying in the water through a turn is reliable and consistent. No wandering, no surprises mid-carve. You can push harder, hold more flow, and trust the foil to do exactly what you ask.

Redesigned from the ground up.

A Completely New Baseplate

The baseplate has been rebuilt from scratch over the Katana. Bolts set closer together let you mount further forward in the tracks — gaining 1.2 inches of mast position. And a tapered mast connection cuts initial drag on every takeoff and touchdown. Small changes on paper; immediately felt on the water.
